When Isabeau the White, the daughter of King Robert I of France, was crowned Queen of France in 1246, she became the first queen to use a crown as a symbol of her throne. The crown was also given to her by her king father. The crown had been worn by her mother, Queen Eleanor, and was passed on to Isabeau by Eleanor of Aquitaine after she died. After her coronation, Isabeau wore it for less than two weeks before she became ill and had to retire it for good.
The coronation ceremony itself took place on December 4th, 1246.
